The Albanese Government is delivering on its commitment to work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on justice reinvestment in First Nations communities.
The Minister for Indigenous Australians will announce the government’s support for community-led, place-based approaches to justice reinvestment at the Joint Council on Closing the Gap meeting in Darwin on Wednesday.
Joint Council members were welcomed to Larrakia Country by Trent Lee who performed a Saltwater Ceremony at the Darwin Waterfront Precinct.
Joint Council paid respects to Larrakia Elders, acknowledging their continuing custodianship of lands from the Cox Peninsula in the west, to Gunn Point in the north, Adelaide River in the east and down to the Manton Dam area southwards.

And what we are announcing today is a strategy to make sure that those people we care about most get the high quality care they need.

Overnight, Minister, Don Farrell, your counterpart, the Trade Minister, met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Wentao, on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Detroit. Apparently, Minister Wang confirmed that the recent visit to Beijing had seen the tariffs on timber removed. Is there confidence that more will be seen along these lines?
