I have just said in Wiradjuri, the language of my people:

“I pay my respects to the ancient Worimi people where you are all meeting today – and honour their custodianship and care for country.”

It is with great pride that I also acknowledge the country I’m speaking to you from today, Wiradjuri Country – and I pay my respects to the Elders here as well.

And I extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here today.

Today we celebrate three decades of the landmark High Court decision Mabo v Qld (No 2) and honour the legacy of the man behind that ruling, Eddie Koiki Mabo.

The High Court decision on 3 June 1992 forever changed the legal face of traditional land ownership for First Nations peoples.

Following the swearing-in of the full ministry today we announce the following departmental and administrative changes that will help deliver better government for all Australians. These changes will take effect on 1 July 2022.

A new Department of Employment and Workplace Relations will be created to implement and administer the Government’s workplace relations, jobs, skills and training agenda.
