Celebrating Australian National Flag Day

The Australian National Flag is proudly displayed throughout the nation and by Australians around the world. It is paraded by our defence forces and displayed around the country at sporting events and by service organisations, schools, community groups and citizens.

Held on 3 September, Australian National Flag Day celebrates the first time the flag was officially flown at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne in 1901 – the site of Australia's first Parliament.

The Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Attorney-General and the Assistant Minister for Indigenous Australians met with the Referendum Engagement Group in Adelaide, on the lands of the Kaurna people.

The Referendum Engagement Group received an update on the Prime Minister’s historic announcement that Australians will head to the polls on October 14 for a referendum on constitutional recognition through an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.
