Marking 40 years since the handback of Uluru

Tomorrow marks the 40-year anniversary of the return of Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park to Anangu, its Traditional Owners.

The Handback is a significant milestone for Anangu and in the history of Australian Indigenous land rights, ending decades of lobbying by Traditional Owners to have their rights recognised.

The then-Prime Minister, Bob Hawke announced in November 1983 that the government would amend the Aboriginal Land Rights Act and return the title for Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to its Traditional Owners.

Trust in Australian public services has hit a record high, according to the latest data from the 2025 Trust in Australian Public Services Report, published by the Australian Public Service Commission.

In 2025, overall trust in federal public services rose to 62 per cent, a four-percentage-point increase from 2024. Trust in specific services reached 73 per cent. These results reflect steady improvements in the quality, reliability and responsiveness of services delivered by the Australian Public Service (APS).

Providers selected to deliver new Remote Australia Employment Service

The Albanese Labor Government is delivering on its commitment to replace the failed Community Development Program (CDP), with providers chosen to deliver the new Remote Australia Employment Service (RAES) from 1 November this year.

Eligible organisations were invited to apply for funding to assist job seekers in remote communities, with a total of 196 applications received.

After a rigorous assessment process, 49 organisations have been selected to deliver services to around 40,000 job seekers across remote communities in 60 regions.

Dedication ceremony for Arafura Swamp Indigenous Protected Area in Arnhem Land

The dedication of the Arafura Swamp Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) was celebrated yesterday with a ceremony at Djakarlawirrka (Army Crossing) – locking in traditional land management practices and supporting local jobs in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

The new IPA covers 1.3 million hectares of land and sea Country over which Yolngu, Bininji and Rembarrnga people have sole native title rights.

The Arafura Swamp is home to many threatened species, including the eastern curlew, northern quoll and the northern brushtail possum.

NSW women to benefit from next stage of Women's Health Package

Women in New South Wales are set to benefit from cheaper medicines and better health care thanks to the next stage of the Albanese Government’s landmark $792.9 million Women’s Health Package.

From 1 November 2025, further changes to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) will give women more contraceptive choice by making it cheaper and easier to access IUDs and contraceptive implants.

MBS rebates for IUD and contraceptive implants procedures will significantly increase, better reflecting the time and skill required helping to reduce out of pocket costs for women.
