New CEO for the Torres Strait Regional Authority

The Albanese Government has appointed Mr Charlie Kaddy as CEO of the Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) for a three-year term.

Mr Kaddy has been acting in the position since 2024 and previously was acting CEO with the Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council.

A proud Dauareb man from the Meriam Nation, Mr Kaddy has extensive experience in governance and leadership programs for the TSRA and brings a wealth of knowledge to the role.

Labor’s free fee TAFE helping thousands in the ACT

The Albanese Labor Government is building Australia’s future by investing in training, with new data showing there have been more than 3,700 enrolments across the ACT since the Free TAFE program began in January 2023.

We are continuing to deliver cost of living relief while encouraging more Australians into construction courses.

That’s why we’re making Free TAFE permanent.

It’s also why we’ve announced a $10,000 incentive payment for Australians in construction apprenticeships.

Pilot program to drive gender equality in Australian workplaces

The Albanese Government is supporting new ways to help make workplaces safer, more respectful and more equitable for women in traditionally male-dominated sectors, through a new tripartite pilot program.

Workplace and industry-level initiatives aimed at creating more inclusive workplaces will launch in 2025 through a $16.4 million grants program.

Funding to strengthen First Nations arts and languages

First Nations arts and language organisations across the country will receive significant funding to support vital cultural practices thanks to the Albanese Labor Government. 

83 First Nations-owned art centres, fairs, regional hubs and industry service organisations will receive a share of more than $38 million in funding over four years through the Government’s Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support (IVAIS) program.

Legislation passes to boost First Nations investment

The Albanese Labor Government has today updated the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act 2005 (ATSI Act) to support greater investment in First Nations businesses and communities.

This reform will give Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) the ability to borrow and raise funds to pursue investment opportunities that drive First Nations economic empowerment.

It will allow IBA to pursue co-investment and partnership opportunities with government and private entities and will deliver benefits that make a real difference to First Nations people.
