Business and Indigenous leaders today gathered in Sydney to launch Spearhead Careers, a new recruitment organisation specialising in placing Indigenous people into managerial and professional roles.
Speaking at the launch in Sydney today, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Alan Tudge, congratulated the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) on their initiative to establish Spearhead Careers, wholly owned by AES.
“Spearhead Careers will take Aboriginal people into professional, management and leadership positions,” Mr Tudge said.
“So Spearhead Careers is not just about jobs, but careers,” Mr Tudge continued.
“I look forward to the day when many more Indigenous people are powerful leaders in our society in their own right, not just as leaders of Indigenous organisations,” Mr Tudge concluded.
The AES has 17 years’ experience of Indigenous employment services, partnering directly with business, Indigenous communities and government.
Spearhead Careers is an extension of the previous work of AES.
It has a focus on connecting Indigenous people who are committed to pursuing a career with employers seeking to recruit Indigenous staff.
Spearhead Careers also has a cadetship programme for Indigenous students that will connect prospective employers with students who are working towards diplomas and undergraduate degrees.
Students will work for up to 12 weeks per year with prospective employers, boosting their prospects of securing ongoing employment leading to successful professional careers.
Spearhead Careers will be independent of government funding.
