Justice Reinvestment for Alice Springs

The Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney, Assistant Minister for Indigenous Australians and the Member for Lingiari, Marion Scrymgour have started talks in Alice Springs on justice reinvestment.

The Federal Budget delivered a landmark $99 million for First Nations justice package. 

This includes $81.5 million in funding for up to 30 community-led justice reinvestment initiatives across Australia, with Alice Springs identified as a priority site.

The Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney is in Mparntwe Alice Springs to deliver news about Federal budget funding for Central Australia.

During her visit, Minister Burney will be joined by Assistant Minister for Indigenous Australians and Assistant Minister for Indigenous Health Malarndirri McCarthy and the Member for Lingiari Marion Scrymgour.

The Federal Budget included a range of measures and targeted investment in Central Australia including justice, health, community safety, infrastructure and housing.

Funding to rebuild the Mutitjulu Health Clinic

A new health clinic will be built in the remote community of Mutitjulu, on the lands of the Anangu people, as part of the Albanese Labor Government’s package of measures to improve First Nations health infrastructure.

Albanese Government delivers landmark First Nations Justice investment

The Albanese Government’s first Budget delivers a historic funding commitment aimed at Closing the Gap and improving the lives of Indigenous Australians.

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus and Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney today jointly announced a First Nations Justice package worth a record $99 million.

Existing justice reinvestment programs have a proven record of reduced incarceration, reduced crime and reduced recidivism.

More say for Wreck Bay

The Australian Government has today introduced a Bill to give the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council more control over its own affairs and to modernise the Council’s governance structures.

The Aboriginal Land Grant (Jervis Bay Territory) Amendment (Strengthening Land and Governance Provisions) Bill 2022 enhances local control over decision making. It also allows the Council to offer home ownership style leases to members of the Wreck Bay community.
