The Australian and Northern Territory Governments are continuing to deliver improved housing outcomes in remote First Nations communities, with six new homes constructed in Angurugu on Groote Eylandt.
The three and four-bedroom homes were co-designed in partnership with the Angurugu community and the Anindilyakwa Land Council.
The houses were built by local First Nations not-for-profit Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island Enterprises (GEBIE), boosting the local economy and strengthening employment opportunities for the community.
The houses are part of the $4 billion Northern Territory Remote Housing Agreement, jointly funded by the Albanese and Finocchiaro Governments and delivered in partnership with Northern Territory Land Councils and Aboriginal Housing NT.
Shared decision-making through the Remote Housing Partnership Agreement ensures First Nations organisations are central to implementing this significant investment.
The 10-year Remote Housing Agreement will deliver up to 2,700 homes for families in remote communities across the Northern Territory to halve overcrowding.
