The Albanese Government will continue to support survivors of the Stolen Generations, with an investment of up to $87 million over four years for specialised support services.
These services include family tracing and reunification which are vital in supporting healing and acknowledging the traumatic and intergenerational impacts of forced removal from family, culture and Country.
The investment will ensure ongoing family history research support services for Stolen Generation survivors and their descendants.
The funding will also continue support for individual and collective healing; including advocating for trauma-informed health and aged care services, access to survivors’ records and access to redress.
Some Stolen Generations survivors may be eligible for payment and personal acknowledgement under the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme.
The Scheme seeks to recognise the harm and trauma experienced by Stolen Generations survivors removed as children from their families or communities in the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory, or the Jervis Bay Territory, prior to their respective self-Government.
Applications for the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme will remain open until 31 August 2027.
To find out more about the Scheme and how to apply, visit territoriesredress.gov.au, email help@territoriesredress.gov.au or call 1800 566 111.
Today marks the 18th anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations that was delivered in 2008 by then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
