The Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy, has congratulated the winners of the 2026 National NAIDOC Awards.
The recipients were announced last night at the National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony in Mparntwe (Alice Springs).
The National NAIDOC Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people whose leadership, dedication and triumphs strengthen communities and inspire future generations.
This year’s winners were selected by the National NAIDOC Committee from hundreds of nominations:
Lifetime Achievement: Aunty Rhoda Roberts AO
Person of the Year: Aunty Pat Turner AO
Female Elder of the Year: Mrs Christine Corby AM
Male Elder of the Year: Dr Stephen Hagan
Sportsperson of the Year: Ms Caitlyn Costello
Youth of the Year: Mr Tyson Neal-Edwards
Creative Talent Award: Ms Kaylene Whiskey
Caring for Country and Culture Award: Southern Aboriginal Corporation Ltd
Education Award: The Aboriginal & Islander Independent Community School (The Murri School)
Innovation Award: Young Indigenous Women’s STEM Academy
This year’s NAIDOC theme, 50 Years of Deadly, marks a significant milestone, celebrating five decades of honouring the strength, resilience, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and elevating First Nations voices across the nation.
