Strengthening the Impact Analysis Framework

Release date:
Media release

The Albanese Government will improve the Impact Analysis Framework to better ensure advice to Government is informed by the best available analysis and evidence.

From 1 July this year, the new Framework will deliver improved scrutiny of proposals, resulting in faster regulatory advice provided to Government.

The Framework also reduces the reliance on consultants. We are committed to uplifting the capability of the Australian Public Service to provide analysis on what matters, when it matters. An agency led approach, supported by expertise in the Office of Impact Analysis, will help ensure analysis that is timely, accountable and influential.

The Productivity Commission recommended that the Framework be administered by an independent statutory body. These changes will improve the impact analysis framework without adding the additional regulatory burden of a new statutory body.

The new guide is available here - Australian Government Impact Analysis Framework.
