The Assistant Minister for the Public Service, the Hon Patrick Gorman MP, has today launched the APS Academy Campus in Townsville.
This Australian Government initiative will build public service data and digital capability and expand regional employment options in Queensland.
The Townsville Campus, delivered by the Australian Public Service (APS) Commission in partnership with James Cook University, is located at the University's Bebegu Yumba campus.
This is a collaborative study space where campus participants can gain new skills, access support and build their professional networks.
Inaugural students, mostly undergraduates, are currently working for the Australian Bureau of Statistics, IP Australia, Department of Defence, and the Australian Public Service Commission.
"The Albanese Government is backing public servants in Townsville to build their skills and deliver services that improve the lives of all Australians", Assistant Minister Gorman said.
"We are supporting participants through access to onsite campus supervisors, study support and connections across public service agencies."
Data and digital talent are the top two critical skills shortages in the APS. This reflects the broader labour market, where demand for data and digital talent continues.
"The APS needs to be available and accessible to Australians in all locations pursuing data and digital careers, so it can continue to deliver essential services to Australians."
Ongoing APS recruitment will ensure access to an ongoing pool of data and digital talent in Townsville.
More information about the initiative and current opportunities is available on the APSC website.
