The Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce has provided the Australian Government with its priorities for how the upcoming Budget can further women’s economic equality in Australia.
The Minister for Women Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher said that the creation of the Taskforce itself delivered on an election commitment to prioritise advice to government on the many issues facing women in the Australian economy.
“I welcome the Taskforce’s advice and I thank them for their effort in reaching out to women around Australia, as well as drawing on their own significant and credible expertise and experience to inform this advice,” said Minister Gallagher.
“We are considering the Taskforce’s recommendations in the context of the 2023-24 Budget, including what we can responsibly deliver in a tight fiscal environment.”
“The investments we make to drive gender equality in this Budget will be built upon in subsequent Budgets, in the same way that we are already building on the over $7 billion investment made in the October Budget to make child care cheaper, boost paid parental leave and support women’s safety.”
The Taskforce will provide final advice to Government that looks beyond this Budget towards the National Strategy to Achieve Gender Equality that will be finalised later this year.
The Women’s Economic Equality Taskforce advice is available on the PM&C website.
