Aboriginal homes in remote communities are getting a major boost from the Australian and Territory Governments with new works to get underway in the Barkly Region.

One tender has been awarded and another will soon be released, both supporting the delivery of new homes and upgrades to existing homes.

A $13.5 million tender has been awarded to Territory company Remote Build NT to deliver 10 new homes and extend 14 existing homes in the Communities of Ampilatwatja and Tara.

Another tender soon to hit the market will deliver 19 new homes and 8 extensions for the Communities of Ali Curung, Imangara (Murray Downs), Canteen Creek and Epenarra (Wutunugurra).

This multi-million dollar investment into the Barkly Region will have greater flow on effects than just housing, bolstering the economy and creating more jobs for Aboriginal Territorians.

Four of the 29 houses to be delivered will be government employee housing, which enables the Territory Government to provide the support and services needed on the ground in remote communities.

Works in Ampilatwatja and Tara are expected to commence within the coming days.

Works in Ali Curung, Imangara (Murray Downs), Canteen Creek and Epenarra (Wutunugurra) are expected to commence in early 2024.

All Communities have been heavily involved in the design process of their new homes through local Housing Reference Groups and community engagement strategies.

The delivery of this remote essential infrastructure is supported through the $2.1 billion Remote Housing Investment Package, Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes – improving Aboriginal housing in remote communities.
