The 12-month program offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians a permanent, full-time, entry level job in government, all while completing a nationally recognised qualification.

Applications are run through Services Australia with opportunities available in a variety of government departments and agencies.

Minister for Government Services Bill Shorten said he is a big supporter of the Indigenous Apprenticeships Program.

“The program plays a pivotal role in building the representation of Indigenous staff in the commonwealth public sector,” Minister Shorten said.

“Since it’s induction more than 1,800 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff have built successful careers in the public service.”

Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney said the program can offer applicants endless opportunities.

“The Indigenous Apprenticeships Program is a fantastic opportunity for Indigenous Australians of all ages, backgrounds and life stages,” Minister Burney said.

“Whether apprentices are working in policy, finance, IT or service delivery, there is so much room to learn and grow through the program.

Applications for the Indigenous Apprenticeships Program are open until 17 February 2023. To apply, visit the Services Australia website.
